Setting up a new computer

The order of operations that gets a new laptop working and protected the first day.

Complete the manufacturer setup with a network connection and install all pending updates.
Sign in with the work account first so policies and licensing apply before other software is added.
Enable disk encryption and confirm the recovery key is stored with the organization.
Install line-of-business applications, then verify printing, email, and file access before retiring the old device.

Keep the old computer powered and available for at least two weeks in case something was missed.
