Microsoft 365 asks you to activate

Microsoft 365 desktop on Windows

Help center

When to use this: Microsoft 365 asks you to activate — use these initial checks when this matches your situation. On a work or school device, follow your organization's policies and stop if a setting is managed.

  1. Read the activation message and note which account is displayed.
  2. Check that you are using the account associated with your subscription or assigned work license.
  3. If prompted in the app, sign in with that account yourself.
  4. For a work or school license, ask your administrator to confirm your assignment.

Check the result: The app shows an active license and allows normal editing.

Stop and get help when needed: Do not buy another subscription to troubleshoot. Do not share passwords or product keys in a support ticket.

Need hands-on help?: Request DefenderTech support for individualized investigation or changes. We will explain the scope and estimate and ask for authorization before paid work begins. Do not include passwords, recovery keys or verification codes in your request.
