Microsoft 365 on Windows

Help center

When to use this: Check for Microsoft 365 desktop updates — use these initial checks when this matches your situation. On a work or school device, follow your organization's policies and stop if a setting is managed.

  1. Save your work and close documents you do not need.
  2. In Word, open File, then Account.
  3. If available, choose Update Options, then Update Now.
  4. Follow the app’s instructions and reopen it after completion.

Check the result: The app reports that it is updated or shows a useful error.

Stop and get help when needed: Missing update controls may indicate organization-managed updates. Ask IT; do not install a second Office copy.

Need hands-on help?: Request DefenderTech support for individualized investigation or changes. We will explain the scope and estimate and ask for authorization before paid work begins. Do not include passwords, recovery keys or verification codes in your request.
