Check whether OneDrive has finished syncing

OneDrive desktop

Help center

When to use this: Check whether OneDrive has finished syncing — use these initial checks when this matches your situation. On a work or school device, follow your organization's policies and stop if a setting is managed.

  1. Open the OneDrive cloud icon in the taskbar or menu bar.
  2. Read the sync status and any displayed error.
  3. If syncing is paused, resume it when you are ready and connected.
  4. Wait for the app to report completion before relying on another device having the latest copy.
  5. If an error remains, record its wording without exposing filenames containing private information.

Check the result: OneDrive reports completion, or you have a specific error to investigate.

Stop and get help when needed: A local file is not proof of a completed cloud copy. Do not unlink OneDrive or delete folders as a first step.

Need hands-on help?: Request DefenderTech support for individualized investigation or changes. We will explain the scope and estimate and ask for authorization before paid work begins. Do not include passwords, recovery keys or verification codes in your request.
